Find it on the map
💧 Where the river begins
The Bistrica rises from the powerful karst spring of Duman, below Bašajkovac hill in old Livno. Water bursts from rock and immediately becomes a small river.
🗺️ Follow the water
Duman → Livno → Livno Field → downstream channels toward Lipsko Lake and Buško Blato.
🐟 A living river
These are examples from the river and its wider basin; species can differ from one stretch to another.
Otters and amphibians use the banks; herons feed across the open Livno Field.
Brown trout may live in the cold spring water; chub can occur downstream.
Grey herons hunt in the shallows; kingfishers may be seen along clear stretches.
✨ Little discoveries
In winter and during snowmelt, Duman can surge and its spray can look like a curtain of mist.
